One night in Bangkok is like spending the night in an own universe somewhere between heaven and hell. The city of angels never sleeps and even if you try to get away from the noise, the action and the masses of people, you somehow are magically drawn towards them.
Even if you don’t want to wander around the various markets, food halls and have a look at the bars that promise a happy ending for the guys who are only a few years away from their death, your subconscious mind will scream at you to explore every aspect of this amazing city.
One night in Bangkok is like a drug that makes your heart beat faster and faster, but as soon as you stay still for a moment, you see that it is not the drug that makes your heart beat. It is just a placebo effect you created in your mind by trying to adapt to the speed.
Spending a night in Bangkok showed me how fast life is. The motorcycles are driving through the endless streams of cars, the BTS Skytrain is taking you from one end to the other end of this incredible city in just a few minutes and on every corner somebody tries to sell you some crap you certainly don’t need.
One night in Bangkok makes you feel as if the time is running fast, way too fast. You feel as if this pace will make you age every second and that it will kill you slowly by wasting your life trying to cope with the speed of this city.
One night in Bangkok doesn’t have to be like a drug rush. You don’t have to cope with the speed and you certainly don’t have to get high on all the things that this city has to offer, even if it is difficult to resist. Stop. Inhale. Exhale. Look around.
Take a moment to rest and to quiet your thoughts and your emotions in a city that doesn’t even know the word quiet. Enjoy the little streets, the areas in which nearly no tourist has ever been before, the authentic Thai life, the local restaurants, the Buddhist temples and the beautiful women who are walking past you. Looking at this city in slow motion is enough to fall in love with it.
One night in Bangkok is seeing hundreds of girls that you are attracted to and never knowing if you should or should not approach her. You wonder if she is a bargirl who provides you with an illusion or a good girl who is better for you than any illusion could ever be. You wonder if she just wants your money or if she is really interested in you. You wonder if she is seeking a Farang or if she is seeking a lover.
There are too many biases and stereotypes that you have internalized through the conditioning of your home country to really enjoy the company of women in the city of angels. You might meet the love of your life and you sometimes still wonder if it is real.
Why? Because it feels too good to be true and it is way too beautiful to be real. Believe me, sometimes it is real and that is the moment in which you have to let go of all the prejudice, all the biases and all the social conditioning and just enjoy the moment.
One night in Bangkok is falling in love. The relationship you will have with this city is like the relationship with a woman you are in love with. Sometimes it is stressful, sometimes you are overwhelmed by the beauty, sometimes you are shocked by the bad sides, sometimes you are delighted by the good sides. All in all you have the feeling of being home, alive and in love with the world.
Not only the city itself but also the women who live in it have the power to make you fall in love. Maybe you came to Bangkok with the intention to experience a crazy sexual adventure and to seduce as many cute girls as possible but suddenly you spend one night in Bangkok that changes everything.
You wake up next to a girl that makes your heart beat faster and you never want this moment to end. All you want is to hold her in your arms for the rest of your life. One night in Bangkok can easily lead to the desire to spend more time in a city that has too much to offer for one lifetime. One night in Bangkok can lead to a future in Bangkok that you could have never imagined in your wildest dreams.
well spotted 😉
Sebastian, were you inspired to write this after you met your girlfriend?
